South China Morning Post: "Coronavirus: hamster research shows effectiveness of masks ‘huge’ in Covid-19 battle, Hong Kong scientists say" "Koronawirus: Naukowcy z Hongkongu twierdzą, że w badaniach na chomikach potwierdzono wysoką skuteczność masek w walce z Covid-19" Hamsters placed in adjoining cages with infected subjects were infected at a 66.7 per cent rate; the introduction of a barrier saw the percentage drop to 16.7 ‘It shows very clearly that if infected hamsters or humans … put on masks, they actually protect other people,’ HKU’s Dr Yuen Kwok-yung says * * * * *  Chomiki umieszczone w klatkach sąsiadujących z zainfekowanymi zwierzętami zostały zakażone w 66,7 procentach przypadków; wprowadzenie bariery spowodowało spadek procentowy do 16,7 „Pokazuje to bardzo wyraźnie, że jeśli zainfekowane chomiki lub ludzie ... zastosują maski, faktycznie chronią innych ludzi”, mówi dr Yuen Kwok-yung z HKU

Aerosol and Surface Distribution of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 in Hospital Wards Wuhan, China, 2020 Abstract To determine distribution of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 in hospital wards in Wuhan, China, we tested air and surface samples. Contamination was greater in intensive care units than general wards. Virus was widely distributed on floors, computer mice, trash cans, and sickbed handrails and was detected in air ≈4 m from patients. […] Conclusions This study led to 3 conclusions. First, SARS-CoV-2 was widely distributed in the air and on object surfaces in both the ICU and GW, implying a potentially high infection risk for medical staff and other close contacts. Second, the environmental contamination was greater in the ICU than in the GW; thus, stricter protective measures should be taken by medical staff working in the ICU. Third, the SARS-CoV-2 aerosol distribution characteristics in the GW indicate that the transmission di...

WHO continues to recommend airborne precautions for circumstances and settings in which aerosol generating procedures and support treatment are performed, according to risk assessment. 13 These recommendations are consistent with other national and international guidelines, including those developed by the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine and Society of Critical Care Medicine 14 and those currently used in Australia, Canada, and United Kingdom. 15-17 At the same time, other countries and organizations, including the US Centers for Di...
